Umi's Archive

Project management and systems design behind a six-part multimedia exhibition on one woman's life.

Umi's Archive (Founder: Su'ad Abdul Khabeer) · May–November 2021

Project managementSystems designMarketing campaigns

Managed a team of 6 and led the product launch of Umi's Archive — a multipart, multimedia research project exploring the life of Amina Amatul Haqq (1950–2017, née Audrey Weeks) and the meanings of being Black in the world, told through a six-part online exhibition series curated by scholar-artist-activist Su'ad Abdul Khabeer.

The Idea

One central workspace that could actually hold the whole exhibition, instead of five disconnected efforts bolted together.

The Problem

The exhibition's content and process were both new — the team's basic Asana template wasn't built to support a multi-part online exhibition, so marketing, web development, content creation, curation, and approvals were running as disconnected efforts.

What I Built

A rebuilt Asana-based project management system integrating marketing, web development, content creation, exhibition curation, and the editing/approval process — plus the #GiftsfromUmi and #FreeImamJamil campaign pages, an IG Live series, and short-form IG carousel content driving traffic to the exhibition site.

How I Built It

Rebuilt the system after exhibitions 2 through 5 through constant feedback loops and systematic organizing, then trained the team on how it functioned — team communication improved markedly under the new system. Ran on Asana, Slack, Rev, YouTube caption editing, Bitly, Linktree, Instagram Insights, and Mailchimp.
